Post Discussion: January 07 Interpreter Training Broadcast
Alright, folks. From our offline conversations, I know some of you attended the satellite broadcast and have your own opinions on what was presented. Let's take this space--and more if we need it--to share:
- what we learned
- what insights were gleaned
- what questions did it answer and/or beg
- a discussion about what could we expect this format and modality to do for ASL interpreter training

I loved the broadcast, I thought that the practice talk was exceptionally helpful. I am excited about the new DVD that will be available. I was very excited about the potential for use in my interpreter training meetings we well. I am excited for the next session on March 9th. I know that the other interps. here overall thought that it was good. My fav. was the guy who talked about stage fright. =) I did wish that there was more that was specific for ASL interps, but the advice and exercizes were easily adapted for us. I am pretty sure though that I am not going to be swining my arms like a monkey to help me relax.... at least not while I am in the hot seat.

Seriously, I loved it and thought it was an excellent start to something that I hope will become much bigger.

I thought it was great. Who was the first speaker? (We had trouble getting things set up, and missed the very beginning.) Also, wasn't there a Brother Stringham? Is he a relation, Doug?

I liked the discussion of the purpose of providiing interpreters - remembering that will help me deal with all the nonsense and frustrations that come with the assignment. :)

The DVD sounds really exciting - it should be good for individual practice, and, as Jess mentioned, it will be a great tool for our ward's interpreter training / practice / whatever.

I have to confess, the whole discuss of kernel sentences was a bit strange. None of us had ever heard anything like that.

Looking forward to March!
